“Used” air is enriched with CO2. This has a narcotic effect on the central nervous system from one percent. The exact mechanism for this is not known. It is clear that even a small rise in CO2 in the air leads to acidification of the blood.
Gas measurement technology using the infrared process allows CO2 to be measured early and with great accuracy. The controls usually relate to ventilation systems to exchange the air.
