The ESU gas sampling system (Environmental Sampling Unit) was developed to simplify the monitoring of gases such as chlorine, sulfur dioxide, etc., which are difficult to detect with conventional “point” gas detectors due to their high density and absorption in many materials are detectable. The EX approved version can be used to monitor heavy combustible gases such as LPG. The ESU uses an induction chamber technique through which gas is drawn by an electric fan. This is placed at the exit of the chamber and pulls the sample through the system of tubes to the chamber. The ESU ventilator and gas sensors connect to the gas monitor which monitors the ventilator to ensure gas is being drawn in and displays gas levels and generates the alarms. The intake chamber is made of high impact ABS and has the gas detector mounted on the outside. The electrical connections are also housed outside in a separate connection box.
If the air can be extracted directly from a ventilation duct,
the ASU (Air Samling Unit) is recommended.
